Designing a Virtual Tutoring Platform from the Ground Up—for Focused Learning Across Years 3–12
As the founding product designer at Cluey Learning, I led the creation of a personalized online tutoring platform for years 3–12, covering Maths, English, and Chemistry. Working with a small team, I focused on designing an intuitive, distraction-free space for students and tutors of all ages and skill levels. Close collaboration with engineering helped us launch a fully functional platform in just six months—now supporting thousands of students and empowering tutors to teach effectively.

Process
Discovery & Definition
As the first and only designer at Cluey, I worked closely with the founding team to define the platform’s vision and core features. We conducted daily discussions and user research to identify essential needs for students and tutors, shaping the MVP. Using blueprint wireframes, I mapped out variations of the workspace early (see below), which helped us quickly align on layout and functionality.
Development & Delivery
Through mock tutoring sessions, we identified what mattered most: minimizing distractions and maximizing learning time. I designed features such as collapsible sidebars and quick content access, keeping the interface clean and intuitive. Regular blueprint wireframes kept the team focused and enabled rapid iteration.
High-Fidelity Prototyping & Launch
I developed high-fidelity prototypes to test real scenarios and refine user flows, focusing on clarity and ease of use for all ages. We moved quickly from prototypes to production, collaborating closely with engineering to polish the final product. After thorough testing, we launched a platform that exceeded expectations for both students and tutors.

Outcome
The result was a fully functional virtual tutoring platform built in just six months. It now supports thousands of students, helping them improve academically and gain confidence, while giving tutors the clarity and flexibility they need to guide effective learning sessions. Our focus on clarity, usability, and collaboration led to a product that continues to have a meaningful impact on students and educators alike.
